HMEPS Social Media Guidelines

 

Welcome to the Houston Municipal Employees Pension System’s (HMEPS) source for guidelines and links to our new social media presence.  HMEPS now has a presence on Facebook (a social networking site).  The creation of HMEPS’s Facebook site is to create an additional platform in which HMEPS may educate its members by posting relevant information about the pension plan, administration and operations. HMEPS’ social media presence is intended to be a non-public forum and is not intended nor created to be a general public forum, nor is it intended to discuss specific individual participant information.

 

HMEPS’ social media tools are also not meant to replace HMEPS’ traditional methods of communication, but instead provide new ways in which to engage with our active members, retirees, beneficiaries and others who have an interest in HMEPS.  Our HMEPS website will remain a primary official source of information regarding the system.

 

Participation is voluntary.  However, we hope you’ll “like” us on Facebook.  If you already have a Facebook account, you’ll need to simply sign in and look for Houston Municipal Employees Pension System.  If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one.  There is no cost to join.

 

Before proceeding, however, HMEPS asks that you carefully review our usage guidelines below.

 

Privacy

 

HMEPS will post only public information on our social media sites.  For example, if you have questions regarding your specific benefits or participation, you are welcome to call the HMEPS office at 713-595-0100 to speak to a counselor. You may also direct questions in writing to the Houston Municipal Employees Pension System, 1201 Louisiana, Suite 900, Houston, TX  77002.

 

When using any social media platform, the public should exercise caution by carefully reviewing personal social media privacy settings whether the account is new or already established (some social media platforms will share user information unless the user declines such sharing.). Users should never open unfamiliar hyperlinks or applications as doing so could result in a malware (malicious software) download such as a virus.

 

Content and Commenting

 

Information on HMEPS’ social media sites is made available to you for your independent use and is not intended to provide you with benefits, retirement or investment advice.  We cannot and do not guarantee its applicability or accuracy with regard to your individual circumstances.  HMEPS assumes no liability for damages incurred directly or indirectly as a result of errors, omissions or discrepancies.

 

The information contained on HMEPS’ social media sites is for informational purposes only.  It does not amend or overrule any applicable statute, policy or rule, or any decision rendered by or policy put in place by HMEPS’ staff or the HMEPS Board of Trustees.

 

HMEPS is a non-public forum and does not accept comments or postings from its participants, employees, a member of the public, etc.

 

Linking

 

HMEPS may link to third party sites.  If you use one of these links, you will leave HMEPS’s social media site and proceed to the selected site located on another server.  By providing links to websites for your convenience, HMEPS does not imply endorsement of a site’s sponsor, nor does HMEPS imply endorsement of any product, service or activity offered on the websites or by any advertiser on the sites.

 

HMEPS’ Terms of Service and Use Policy (For Copyright Protections)

 

HMEPS respects the rights of all copyright holders and will remove or disable access to infringing material.  In appropriate circumstances, users, account holders, subscribers, including employees, who repeatedly infringe the rights of copyright holders, will be terminated from network participation or use of the HMEPS website.

Third Party Terms of Service
